Position Details: Summary of Duties: Reporting to the Director of Simulations for the Center for Experiential Learning in the College of Nursing, the Standardized Patient (SP) Coordinator holds a vital role in the experiential learning of nursing students.
Standardized Patients are individuals who are hired and specially trained to realistically act as patients for the instruction, practice and assessment of medical examination skills of nursing students. SP's serve in realistic simulations to maintain standardized experiences for all nursing students and provide feedback.
The Standardized Patient Coordinator oversees the administration, training and supervision of Standardized Patients. Extensively engaging with nursing students, faculty and staff, this is a 'hands-on' active position carrying out simulation program activities, coordinating, scheduling and monitoring simulation activities ensuring consistency with experiential learning program goals as set by academic leadership and faculty.
The Standardized Patient Coordinator will manage 65-85 hourly, part-time SP's, booking their work to align with simulation case encounters, primarily in Spokane, but also at other campuses. Administering the full life cycle of SP's includes recruiting/auditioning, making hiring recommendations, training, coaching, supervising and scheduling. They will also ensure background checks and annual compliance training are complete and tracked.
The Standardized Patient Coordinator will help develop and initiate aspects of the training programs for SPs, including the development of medical role-play case materials, checklists, and rating scales for use by faculty and SPs. As part of training, the Standardized Patient Coordinator will play the role of student in improvisations to provide practice.
The Standardized Patient Coordinator will maintain accurate records of student experiences, course assignments, hours worked, and professional development.
Required Qualifications: High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of applicable experience in the program specialty; OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Requirements: - Education/experience may combine to meet the three years (full-time) of applicable experience in the program specialty of 'Standardized Patient Coordinator' (Coordinating patient simulation learning experiences). Experiences might include:
- Standardized patient trainer/coordination, standardized patient, clinical education (RN, LPN, Medical Assistant, EMT, etc), acting/directing, teaching, proctoring exams, working with medical equipment, voluminous scheduling or coordination, supervision, etc.
- General knowledge of medical terminology and conditions, medical equipment.
- Proficient with MS software applications, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Internet, and database use.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Able to coach others, handle challenging situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
- Demonstrated ability to record, manage and track volumes of staff, materials and schedules.
- Comfortable with the following:
- Working in a healthcare/medical simulation environment
- Working with medical equipment and manikins
- Able to push/pull/lift/carry equipment up to 50 pounds, with or without accommodation.
- Driver's license upon hire due to occasional travel to other campuses.
Preferred Qualifications: - RN, Bachelors of Science in Nursing or other Health Sciences or medical related field.
- Supervisory experience.
- Experience in a medical simulation lab.
- Experience running audio visual equipment.
- Experience working in higher education, especially in a health related area.
- Experience with planning, writing, implementing and evaluating a created/scripted experience.

Range 41 Steps A - M | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28. Step M is typically a longevity step.
