The Entry Level Paralegal works primarily under the direction of the partners, attorneys and paralegals in the practice groups and the paralegal manager. This position will perform substantive research and practice support initiatives for the practice groups and maintain positive contact with clients, and observe confidentiality in all client matters.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist paralegals and attorneys on practice-related projects.
  • Work under close supervision of an experienced paralegal or attorney.
  • Task-based responsibilities include factual/internet research, document review, document and electronic productions during the discovery process, database coding and input, drafting documents and pleadings, preparing witness files, assisting with deposition preparation, trial preparation, and attending trials, arbitrations and mediations/hearings
  • Assist on a variety of clerical tasks relating to litigation file management and the information contained therein
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives

Education/Training/Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field

 

Professional Experience:

  • Entry level

 

Specific Technical Skills:

  • Solid computer skills. Through working knowledge/familiarity with office software and database products (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Internet search functions).
  • Reasonable typing skills with accuracy

 

Performance Traits:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to communicate effectively and in a professional manner with all levels of the Firm, clients, outside vendors, and government agencies.
  • Client relationship and communications skills, including evidence of excellent reading skills, writing ability with clarity, analytical skills, ability to summarize research results with brevity and professionalism are essential
  • Ability to work under pressure in a diverse team environment and effectively support the demanding needs of the Firm
  • Strong organizational skills and the proven ability to handle multiple projects, take accountability for deadlines amid shifting priorities, and early identification of potential schedule changes
  • Strong attention to detail, quality control, responsiveness, and accuracy
  • Must be a self-starter with a high level of initiative
  • Strong customer service skills, able to anticipate needs
  • Maintains confidentiality and exercises discretion
  • Exercises solid strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to collaborate successfully and share ownership of the end-product with the lawyers and other members of the practice group
  • Flexibility to work overtime as needed, with ability to travel for extended periods of time if necessary

 

Physical Requirements:

  • May require occasional lifting of up to 20 lbs.
  • May require travel to other offices as needed

 

The typical Washington, D.C. pay scale for this position is between $62,300 and $71,600, although the actual wage or salary could be lower or higher if the candidate’s education, experience, skills and internal pay alignment are different from those specified.
