Essential Job Functions:

1. Maintains and updates records of accession, condition, conservation, and location of museum objects, overseeing their movement, packing, and shipping per insurance regulations.
2. Prepares Collections Committee presentations for new accessions and prepares and submits gift paperwork.
3. Assists with transportation and coordination with shippers, customs agents, lenders, and galleries for incoming loans and acquisitions.
4. Develops and initiates methods of packing and shipping of fragile or valuable objects.
5. Assists with exhibition safety as it pertains but not limited to the monitoring of light levels, temperature/humidity control, pest control, maintenance, and natural disasters.
6. Prepares documentation and maintains files and retrieval systems related to exhibitions.
7. Supervises and documents the unpacking, installation, de-installation, and re-packing artworks related to exhibitions.
8. Assists with all rights and reproductions functions according to pre-established policies.
9. Conducts regular inspections of storage facilities and artwork conditions, maintaining related documentation.
10. Monitors environmental conditions of the museum, including temperature, humidity, and light levels.
11. Assists in AAM reaccreditation process, including regular Self-Study and consistent review of collection, storage and exhibitions policies and procedures.
12. Assists in annual fine art insurance policy renewal including providing recommendations for coverage to the Director and compiling supporting documentation for valuations.
13. Supports curatorial staff and the Director in collection and exhibition-based grant projects.
14. Trains the preparation staff members in the handling of artworks.
15. Conducts research on collection objects and works included in exhibitions to ensure accuracy of information; compiles provenance as needed.
16. Travels as courier to supervise and document the installation of collection objects offsite.
17. Performs other duties as assigned.
18. Completes special projects as assigned.

Knowledge:
1. General knowledge of MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word and Excel).
2. English Language - General knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
3. Customer and Personal Service - General knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of user satisfaction.
4. Event Planning – Proficient knowledge in organizing and managing events, with strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
5. Proficient knowledge of current registration practices and principles and a clear understanding of art museum standards and protocols.
6. Proficient knowledge of legal and ethical standards as they relate to museum collections.
7. Proficient knowledge of museum environmental and security standards.
8. Proficient knowledge of principles of art conservation.
9. Proficient knowledge of museum standards and techniques for shipping, packing and handling art works.
10. Proficient knowledge of copyright laws and current art museum rights and reproduction practices.

4. Travel - Must be able to travel on a daily and/or overnight basis.

6. May be exposed to short, intermittent, and/or prolonged periods of sitting and/or standing in performance of job duties.
7. May be required to accomplish job duties using various types of equipment/supplies, to include but not limited to pens, pencils, and computer keyboards.

Bachelor's Degree

Major (if required):

Art History, Studio Art, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, or a closely related field.

Required Experience:

Minimum of three (3) years of museum registration experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working in an art museum.
