Current internship positions are available in our Lower 48 organization depending upon your assignment either as a Wells, Production or Operations HSE Intern.

The primary function of a HSE Summer Intern is to provide HSE support or an operational production location or wells location. Field based activities may include conducting audits, participating in incident investigations, performing industrial hygiene or environmental monitoring, preparing HSE meeting material, participating in emergency response activities, reviewing or compiling datasets in internal tracking software or excel trackers, dashboard reviews or analyzing dataset trends, and other duties as assigned. Our Interns lead by example and contribute directly to a positive HSE performance and culture through visible action, high standards and commitment to safe work practices.

Assignments will be at one of our sites located in Kenedy or Midland, Texas, Dickinson North Dakota, or Anchorage, Alaska. You may be eligible for the voluntary hybrid office work (HOW) program that is designed to provide employees with flexibility while maintaining the advantages of in-person engagement. The typical length of our internships varies from 10 to 12 weeks based on the project and your availability. The ability to travel from Houston to the field will be required for the Wells Operation role.
Job Description
Responsibilities may include:
  • Implement action plans to drive a positive HSE culture and improve the quality and effectiveness of core HSE programs, HSE Management Systems and programs
  • Provide field HSE support for designated events and projects as directed by your HSE supervisor
  • Demonstrate a commitment to establishing and meeting HSE performance targets and generate ideas for continuous HSE performance improvement
  • Understand and manage the hazards and risks associated with your role and other risks that can impact our organizational objectives
  • Utilize statistical analysis and resources for reviewing HSE metrics, dashboards or data sets (using excel or any other analysis software) for the assets to compile or track trends, provide background information or learnings or to recommend safety improvements based on analysis.
  • Evaluation of hazards, exposures, and general impacts associated with operation of process equipment, facilities, and projects including large-scale construction within an existing facility
  • Completion of technical documentation and training and support for operations/field personnel in regulatory/policy compliance
  • Development and implementation of plans, programs, and procedures guiding regulatory compliance, proper and safe operations, and prevention of undesired consequences
  • Preparation and submission of internal and external reports and related documentation, including formal presentations to small and large groups
  • Identification and qualification of outside resources and services
  • Lead or participate in incident investigations, field audits and other incident causation and prevention activities
  • Participate in emergency planning and response activities
Basic/Required:
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer and/or education institution
  • Pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, or related technical field or foreign equivalent
  • Current level in college: Sophomore through Graduate Student
  • Expected graduation date: Fall 2025 through Spring/Fall 2027
  • Available for internship start mid-late May 2025
  • A minimum of ten (10) continuous weeks' availability for internship
  • Ability to travel domestically with~20% of the time out of the assigned area
Preferred:
  • Willing to work in either of these locations: Kenedy or Midland, Texas, Dickinson, North Dakota, or Anchorage, Alaska
  • A minimum cumulative and major GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
  • Proficient in Microsoft office products
  • Ability to generate effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
  • Develops strong relationships based on trust and seeks opportunities to collaborate across the matrix/organizational boundaries to achieve business goals
